Moussaka

  • 1.5 kg potatoes
  • 300 grams ground meat
  • 1 onion
  • oil for deep frying
  • 2-3 eggs
  • 150 ml milk
  • 1 tablespoon mixture of dried vegetables;
  • salt and black pepper
  • 200 ml water

Preparation:

Dice the onion and then place it in a frying pan with heated oil.

Fry it just a little bit.

Add the ground meat. Spice it up with some salt, ground black pepper and mixture of dried vegetables.

Fry it for about 5 minutes. Then remove the pan from heat and place it on a side.

Peel the potatoes and slice them in thin circles.

In a casserole place one layer of potato circles (or two layer if they are cut very thin). Over the potato circles place half of the ground meat. Then, place another layer of potato circles and over them place the other half of the meat.

Again put another layer of potato circles and add some salt. Pour oil over the food.

Then pour in 200 ml salted boiled water.

In a bowl beat the eggs, add the milk in the bowl, mix it all well and pour it in over the dish in the casserole.

Cook it in a heated oven to 250 degrees Celsius for about 30 minutes.

p.s.   Always tend to pour in the eggs with the milk before putting the moussaka in the oven to roast. That way, the potatoes will be moisturized by the milk which will  prevent them to harden in case you have leftovers of the meal the next day. This will make the potatoes soft and delicious!
